46 graduates from the Asklepios Campus Hamburg (ACH) of Semmelweis University received their Doctor of Medicine degrees in a formal ceremony held at the Embassy of Hungary in Berlin. This marked the 14th graduating class of the university’s German-language medical program.
The event began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Péter Györkös, Hungarian Ambassador to Germany, followed by Dr. Karl Jürgen Oldhafer, Dean’s Commissioner of ACH, who praised the graduates for completing their six-year journey. The ceremony continued with the official opening by Dr. Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, and the administration of the medical oath led by Dr. Péter Nyirády, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Top graduate Dr. Louisa Marie Lösert was first to be honored, followed by each graduate receiving a ceremonial sash from Dr. Oldhafer and congratulations from university leadership.
In his address, Rector Merkely highlighted the significance of ACH, a partnership launched in 2008 with the Asklepios Clinics Group, and emphasized Semmelweis University’s role as Hungary’s leading medical institution and a European center of excellence. Two German faculty members were also recognized:
- Dr. Claudia Schnabel received the title “Habilitated Doctor of Semmelweis University”
- Dr. Christopher Netsch was appointed as subject leader.
The celebration concluded with a group photo at the Brandenburg Gate, where the new doctors marked the occasion by tossing their caps into the air—a symbolic start to their medical careers.
“Cherish these moments… This could lay the foundation for your self-confidence and motivation,” said Rector Dr. Béla Merkely.
