
The 12th Transylvanian Hungarian Hospitality and Tourism Conference took place on June 13, 2025, in Cluj-Napoca, hosted by the Law, Economics, and Social Sciences Section of the Transylvanian Museum Society (EME). The event brought together Hungarian-speaking researchers and tourism professionals from across the Carpathian Basin to present the latest findings in tourism and hospitality science.
Among the 17 featured speakers, Nyíregyházi University was represented by Prof. Dr. Árpád Hanusz, professor emeritus, and Dr. István Komáromi PhD, research teacher and director of the university’s Eötvös József Practice School.
Their presentations contributed to the conference theme, “The Role of Gastronomy in Tourism.”
- Prof. Hanusz explored “The Role of Gastro-Festivals in Enhancing Rural Destination Appeal.”
- Dr. Komáromi discussed experiential and active learning in tourism through his topic: “The Role of Out-of-Class Learning and Active Tourism in System-Based Development of Youth Tourism.”
The conference, held at the historic Rhédey House, offered a wide academic program as well as a professional site visit. Participants toured the Bethlen Gábor College in Aiud (Nagyenyed), deepening the cultural and historical context of the event.
Organized by Dr. János Talpas, the conference maintained its tradition of blending academic exchange with field engagement. Both presenters and attendees from Hungary and Transylvania used the occasion to share methods and models for modern tourism development in Hungarian-speaking regions.
