Budapest – June 19, 2025 | The academic community at Óbuda University is mourning the sudden passing of László Kernya, beloved former lecturer and mentor, who died unexpectedly at the age of 47.
Kernya served as an assistant lecturer at the university between 2011 and 2017, teaching logistics courses in the Business and Management BA programme. He also led the Student Welfare Committee and the university’s specialized college, making a lasting impression on both colleagues and students beyond the economics department.
Known for his ability to integrate his 15 years of experience in logistics and quality management into teaching, Kernya was admired for his open-mindedness, colourful thinking, and enthusiasm for education—which he always considered a passion, never just a job.
Outside the classroom, he played an active role in building community at the Institute of Business Studies, from hosting year-end gatherings to participating in team events such as the university’s cooking competition—where he once impressed colleagues with Japanese cuisine, despite losing the prize to a bowl of Bajai fish soup.
“He missed teaching, the students, and the team,” wrote Dr. Péter Póla, Director of the Institute. “He was always eager to return and share his knowledge again.”
The university community extends its deepest condolences to László Kernya’s family and loved ones. His warmth, intellect, and spirit will be fondly remembered.
