Students at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) have been warned of potential dismissals and scholarship reclassifications as the university wraps up the 2024/25 academic year.
In a statement issued on Friday, the university outlined a series of key dates and procedures affecting both domestic and international students.
Academic performance will be reviewed on 2 July. Students failing to meet minimum requirements, including credit thresholds and grade point averages, could be dismissed. Those affected will receive formal notification via the university’s internal system, NEPTUN, and will have 15 days to appeal.
The university also confirmed that scholarship holders under the Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungary Helps programmes risk losing their funding if they fail to complete at least 36 credits during the academic year. Reclassified students will be moved to a fee-paying status and must sign new contracts by early September.
Course registration for the next academic year will open on 27 August, with early access granted to high-achieving students and those who complete the university’s feedback survey by mid-July. Students in certain faculties must also complete mandatory safety training before registering.
BME said the number of passive semesters a student can take remains limited to two, unless an extension is granted. Failure to reactivate student status or secure approval could lead to termination.
The university has encouraged students to review their academic records and seek clarification where necessary. Further details are available through the Central Academic Office.
