Seoul, South Korea — Sándor Burian, a PhD student and researcher at the OE Space Lab, has been selected as the sole Hungarian participant in the International Space University’s (ISU) renowned Space Studies Program (SSP25), currently underway in Seoul.
The nearly two-month-long program, hosted by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and Hanyang University, brings together future leaders in the field of space exploration from around the world. Now in its 37th edition, the SSP offers intensive training through high-level lectures and workshops covering engineering, policy, and business aspects of space activities.
Burian’s selection is seen as a significant achievement for both Hungary and his university. “As space research gains increasing importance globally, it is an exceptional honour to have our researcher represent not only our institution but also our country,” the university said in a statement.
Participants will benefit from the expertise of South Korea’s leading scientific bodies, including the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
South Korea’s own space ambitions have surged in recent years, marked by the development of the Nuri launch vehicle, the Danuri lunar orbiter, and the establishment of the new Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA).
