Hungary and universities from across the Turkic states have strengthened academic cooperation following the 1st Academic Conference of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held on 25–26 June at the Ybl Villa in Budapest. The event was hosted by Obuda University, which also serves as the location of the OTS Representation Office in Hungary.
Minister for Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó announced that Obuda University, alongside the University of Miskolc, the University of Debrecen, Semmelweis University, and Széchenyi István University in Győr, will partner with thirteen universities from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.
Plans include launching joint and double-degree programmes, establishing an innovation fund involving at least three countries, and focusing on key areas such as engineering, natural and agricultural sciences, health sciences, and water management. These collaborations are expected to boost the Hungarian economy, support youth development, and foster ties with domestic companies.
Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University, highlighted the importance of education and research in strengthening relations between Hungary and the Turkic states. He pointed to initiatives such as talent camps, scholarship opportunities, and mobility programmes, and shared the success story of Uzbekistan’s INNOTECHNO Park as a model for linking innovation, industry, and academia.
During the conference, Obuda University signed a new cooperation agreement with D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU), expanding on an existing partnership that dates back to 2018. The agreement aims to further joint research and student exchanges, especially in automation and control engineering.
Participants expressed strong support for continuing the conference in the future, underlining a shared commitment to deepen academic and scientific collaboration across the region.
