Semmelweis University has unveiled fully renovated teaching laboratories at its Faculty of Dentistry, marking a major step forward in dental education in Hungary. The HUF 3 billion investment has doubled the available space at the Department of Preclinical Dentistry and introduced a new digital dental laboratory to accommodate a growing number of Hungarian, English, and German-speaking students.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, praised Semmelweis as one of the oldest and top-ranked medical universities globally. “Let us celebrate this success and commit to the goal that by 2030, there will be a Hungarian university among the top 100 in the world,” he said.
Rector Dr. Béla Merkely noted the opening comes as the Faculty of Dentistry celebrates its 70th anniversary. The upgrades include new phantom head units, operating microscopes for teaching precision root canal procedures, and a 30-seat digital lab for advanced dental design. “This development strengthens our practice-focused training and helps prepare even better dentists for patient care,” he emphasized.
Dr. Krisztina Márton, Head of the Department of Preclinical Dentistry, highlighted that with these enhancements, the Faculty of Dentistry is now among the most advanced and largest dental training centers in the world.
