Corvinus University of Budapest hosted the Hungarian CIO Association (VISZ) forum at its Gellért Campus, focusing on the steep energy demands created by digital transformation, AI and data centres.
Dr Péter Fehér, Director of International Alliances at Corvinus, cited World Economic Forum data showing data centre consumption could rise over 160 percent by 2030. Speakers including Viktor Szabó from the Ministry of Energy and Ferenc Gazdag of VISZ explored solutions like optimising IT infrastructure, rewriting applications, and reusing waste heat.
Dr Ildikó Borbásné Szabó from Corvinus stressed that boosting energy efficiency is not only an IT task but also an organisational strategy requiring new mindsets and leadership engagement.
Participants agreed that tackling this issue means more than adopting tech fixes — it calls for transforming habits across entire businesses to achieve real, sustainable energy savings.
