The Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music marks its 50th anniversary with a special concert titled “Fölszállott a páva” on 7 August at 7:30 PM in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy. The event will feature three iconic works by Zoltán Kodály: Psalmus Hungaricus (114th Geneva Psalm), Fölszállott a páva, and Budavári Te Deum.
The performance brings together soloists Mária Lökösházi, Judit Rajk, Márton Komáromi, and Zsombor Cserményi, the Kecskemét Symphony Orchestra, and a choir composed of nearly 300 participants from the 27th International Kodály Symposium. The ensemble will be conducted by Péter Erdei, founding director of the Institute, and Huba Hollókői, artistic director of the orchestra.
Founded in 1975 through the efforts of Sarolta Kodály and located in a historic Franciscan monastery in Kecskemét, the Kodály Institute has become a global hub for music education, welcoming nearly 7,000 students and teachers from 60 countries. It operates as a department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and continues to uphold the legacy of Kodály’s music pedagogy as part of Hungary’s cultural heritage and the intellectual world heritage.
This anniversary coincides with the 27th International Kodály Symposium and the 50th anniversary of the International Kodály Society, both of which are being celebrated alongside the 150th anniversary of the Liszt Academy and the 35th anniversary of the Kodály Institute Foundation.
The concert will also be performed in Kecskemét the following day.
Dr Judit Rajk, director of the Kodály Institute, noted:
“It is a profound joy to celebrate the shared legacy of Franz Liszt and Zoltán Kodály as founders of institutions that shaped Hungary’s musical identity and global reputation. This concert is not just a commemoration, but a tribute to their vision of music education as a cornerstone of cultural excellence.”
