
Prof. Dawid Janas, Vice-Dean for Science and Cooperation at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology, has been officially conferred the title of professor in the discipline of chemical sciences. The ceremony took place on 30 July 2025 at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, where President Andrzej Duda presented the nominations.
A graduate of the University of Cambridge, Prof. Janas earned his PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy in 2014 and has been with the Silesian University of Technology since 2016. His research focuses on carbon nanostructures and their transformative applications, with over 100 publications in top international journals to his credit.
Recognised among the top 2% of most influential scientists globally by Scopus and Stanford University, Prof. Janas has led numerous projects funded by Poland’s major research agencies and has received several prestigious scholarships, including from the Fulbright Commission and the Foundation for Polish Science.
Another academic from the university, Prof. Marek Sikora, also received a professorial nomination in engineering and technical sciences but was unable to attend the ceremony.
