Dr Beata Kruk of the Medical University of Warsaw has been awarded nearly PLN 50,000 under the National Science Centre’s Miniatura 9 programme to investigate the impact of a genetic variant of the ARID3A gene (rs2238571) on the risk and progression of primary cholangitis.
The study will explore the gene’s link to liver fibrosis, aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy and support the development of personalised therapies for cholestatic liver disease. Researchers say the project could advance understanding of immune and genetic mechanisms driving liver damage, offering insights with significant implications for hepatology and immunogenetics.
Dr Kruk’s research is among 74 projects selected for funding in the latest NCN Miniatura 9 ranking.
