AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków has featured Mentari Mukti, a PhD student at the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection, in the third episode of its “AGH University International Faces” series.
Originally from Indonesia, Mentari came to Poland through the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Scholarship Programme. Her research focuses on geothermal water desalination and its use in agriculture, including experiments at the Geothermal Laboratory of the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute (PAN) in Bańska Niżna. “We use geothermal water to irrigate lettuce and eggplants, and the results are promising,” she said.
In addition to her research, Mentari works at AGH’s International Relations Centre, where she helps foreign students adapt to life in Poland. “I know how challenging it can be at first, so I want to help others feel at home,” she explained.
Mentari credits Prof. Barbara Tomaszewska for mentoring her and guiding her into the field of sustainable geothermal energy. She hopes to continue her academic career in Kraków while building collaborations between Europe and Southeast Asia, especially to support Indonesia’s geothermal potential.
Her story underscores how science can drive change and how international students enrich AGH’s academic community.
