BUDAPEST – August 6, 2025 – John von Neumann University recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students from Transylvania as part of the Erasmus – Discover EU – Let’s Explore Europe by Train initiative, an EU-funded project involving visits to five cities: Budapest, Warsaw, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius. Budapest served as the first stop of the tour.
The half-day program organized by the university centered around the theme of Smart City. The event began with presentations by representatives of Techray Development Ltd., a key partner of the university. CEO Máté Hegedűs introduced the various municipal and urban management applications of AI technology, including administrative services, education, waste detection, weapon recognition, and transportation. Delivery Director Balázs Vörös outlined the possibilities of intelligent transport systems, touching on predictive traffic light control, V2X communication technologies, and automated charging for electric vehicles.
University staff member Tamás Dede conducted an interactive drone demonstration using equipment from the university’s soon-to-be-launched drone lab. The session highlighted image processing and drone sensor technology, showing how such systems can function as temporary vision platforms in a Smart City context. At the end of the session, students had the chance to try piloting a small consumer drone themselves.
To conclude the program, the university’s creative director, Ottó Varga, offered a glimpse into the digital content development process. He introduced students to the AI avatar creation tools used in the university’s educational materials—allowing them to generate their own avatars during the session.
According to the feedback received, the students found the university’s short program not only useful but also highly engaging.
