
Researchers from the Medical University of Vienna, Technical University of Munich, and Helmholtz Munich have developed a new endoscopy technology called O2E that combines optical coherence tomography and optoacoustic imaging. This dual system detects early cancerous changes in the esophagus with unprecedented precision. Integrated into a 360-degree scanning capsule, O2E enables high-resolution 3D imaging of tissue structure and microvascular changes, improving early diagnosis and reducing the need for biopsies. The EU-funded ESOHISTO project will now refine the technology for clinical use.
