Székesfehérvár, May 27, 2025 — As Hungary faces growing demographic pressure, researchers from Corvinus University of Budapest have issued a stark warning: without immediate action, the country’s aging population could lead to a systemic collapse of its social and healthcare structures. Their latest research, conducted in partnership with local civil organizations, focuses on Székesfehérvár — the first Hungarian city assessed using the Active Aging Index (AAI).
The findings reveal rising concerns over financial insecurity, loneliness, and limited access to healthcare among residents aged 55 and above. Based on detailed surveys and focus groups, the study proposes a range of policy recommendations to improve seniors’ quality of life — from digital literacy and mental health support to innovative co-housing models and tailored social services.
Corvinus researchers argue that unless proactive measures are taken now, Székesfehérvár may become the first city to experience the full impact of a national demographic crisis.
