This August, the University of Helsinki will launch a unique mentoring programme in which its senior leadership, deans, and sector directors will be mentored by students from Helsingin Yhteislyseo general upper secondary school. The initiative aims to give university leaders direct insight into young people’s perspectives on education, career aspirations, and life, helping to shape a more inclusive and attractive academic environment.
Fifteen university leaders will take part, paired with 23 secondary school students from diverse backgrounds. The programme is designed to build mutual understanding, boost young people’s confidence in pursuing higher education, and inspire dialogue between generations. Organisers hope the exchange will encourage students—especially those without family experience in higher education—to consider university studies as a realistic and exciting option.
