The University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) is spearheading the implementation of the region’s fourth intelligent specialisation, “Healthy Life,” focusing on medical tourism and renewable energy integration. Dr Jarosław Klimczak from UWM’s School of Public Health is coordinating over 70 innovative projects using advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality to offer top-tier medical rehabilitation and diagnostics in the scenic environment of Warmia and Masuria.
Plans include specialised health retreats covering cardiology, diabetology, orthopaedic rehabilitation, sleep disorder treatment, and forest therapy, supported by state-of-the-art equipment and holistic patient care. Key locations, such as Lidzbark Warmiński, are being developed into full health tourism hubs, drawing on historical spa traditions.
UWM’s role extends beyond training essential healthcare staff, such as nurses, physiotherapists, and paramedics, to leading scientific research and innovation in the sector. The initiative aims to extend the tourist season, strengthen the regional economy, and establish Warmia and Masuria as a premier European destination for health and wellness tourism.
