To mark the 150th anniversary of women’s admission to university, the University of Copenhagen is hosting RECAST, a major group exhibition that challenges the institution’s traditional use of art to commemorate its history. The exhibition features 13 contemporary artists—including Anne-Mette Schultz, benandsebastian, Elisabeth Toubro, and others—who reinterpret the university’s historical portrait busts, previously honoring only white male scientists.
Each artist occupies a reading room niche in the University Library, creating interventions that explore new notions of research, knowledge exchange, and inclusion. The exhibition emphasizes collaboration, multiple voices, and the role of the body in knowledge production.
RECAST also includes a series of public events, artist talks, performances, and curator tours. The exhibition is curated by Amalie Skovmøller, Ida Højgaard Thjømøe, and Mathias Danbolt, and forms part of the University of Copenhagen’s 150th anniversary programme.
