Nour El Houda Djedda, French Teaching Assistant and MD candidate at Semmelweis University, is currently participating in a two-week Dental Laboratory Summer Practice focused on the fundamentals of odontotechnology.
The program’s first week included cast making with alginate and silicone, as well as exploring the phases of fixed and removable appliances, offering students an inside look at the processes that take place before a patient even enters the clinic.
Beyond technical skills, the practice also highlighted dentistry’s wider impact. Students learned about minimizing clinical waste, measuring their carbon footprint, and reflecting on sustainability as future healthcare professionals. The sessions also emphasized health and safety practices such as needlestick injury prevention and regular health checks.
Teamwork has been at the heart of the program, with students collaborating on oral presentations and day-to-day tasks. The second week will continue at the Department of Dentistry’s Clinical Building, where participants will focus on manual skills, including wax modeling and artificial tooth work.
