
Young researcher Sam Mattheus from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has been nominated for the New Scientist Science Talent 2025 award, recognizing outstanding scientific achievement in the Netherlands and Flanders. Mattheus solved a decades-old mathematical problem in Ramsey theory by combining multiple branches of mathematics, earning international acclaim. He collaborated with Professor Jacques Verstraete at the University of California San Diego and has been invited to present his findings in China. Voting for Science Talent 2025 is open until 8 September, with the winner announced during the Weekend of Science on 4-5 October.
