Facing major crop loss due to spring frost and vigorous shoot growth, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) has launched a national summer (green) pruning training to help fruit growers restore balance to their orchards.
Organized by the Institute of Horticulture and the Centre for Adult Education and Counselling, the program offers hands-on, one-day sessions across four Hungarian cities: Budapest (Soroksár), Érd, Cegléd, and Keszthely. The goal is to teach participants how to manage excessive growth, optimize bud formation, and protect future yields — all without requiring prior experience.
Training includes 1 hour of theory and 7 hours of practical pruning, with expert guidance from MATE’s experimental research staff and access to gene bank orchards containing a wide variety of fruit tree types.
The participation fee is HUF 24,000 (gross), and successful attendees will receive a certificate.
