The Gdańsk Medical University’s II Clinic of Cardiology and Heart Electrotherapy at the University Clinical Center (UCK) successfully implanted the latest-generation BIOTRONIK Rivacor Sky cardioverter-defibrillator. This procedure took place just four months after the device’s global premiere and was the second such implantation in Poland. The 67-year-old patient had multiple cardiac conditions, including heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, persistent atrial fibrillation, and left bundle branch block (LBB), which is the natural conduction pathway of the heart. Rivacor Sky is the world’s first CE-certified device designed for Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing (LBBAP), offering adaptive pacing that closely mimics natural heart function and improves cardiac resynchronization.Prof. Maciej Kempa emphasized that the device includes innovative features such as MRI Guard 24/7, enabling safe MRI scans without reprogramming, along with advanced arrhythmia detection and both low- and high-energy therapy options. The procedure was performed on March 2, 2026, by Prof. Maciej Kempa, Dr. hab. Szymon Budrejko, and the Heart Electrotherapy team under the leadership of Ludmiła Daniłowicz-Szymanowicz. GUMed was selected by the manufacturer as one of only two centers in Poland to perform these pioneering procedures, highlighting its leadership in advanced cardiac electrotherapy.
