Roman Barták, a professor of computer science at Charles University, has been awarded the prestigious AAAI Fellow title by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. The recognition is given annually to researchers who have made significant global contributions to the field of artificial intelligence.Barták’s research focuses on automated planning, a key area of AI that helps systems organize actions to achieve specific goals. His work includes developing algorithms that allow machines and robots to plan tasks efficiently, such as coordinating warehouse robots that collect products for online orders or managing routes for multiple autonomous agents without collisions. He emphasized that while generative AI and language models currently dominate public discussion, other AI technologies—such as planning systems—remain essential for solving complex real-world problems. Barták also highlighted the importance of integrating different AI methods to create more effective intelligent systems. The professor encourages students and young researchers to use AI as a helpful tool while maintaining critical thinking skills and independent problem-solving abilities.
