The University of Primorska’s ARCHI-SKIN project, led by Dr. Anna Sandak, has been highlighted in the European Commission’s Science4EU campaign, which showcases how the EU supports researchers and innovators in advancing knowledge. ARCHI-SKIN is developing a bioinspired living coating made from fungal biofilms that can be applied to wood, concrete, and plastic to protect buildings from weather damage. Unlike traditional chemical-based coatings, this environmentally friendly solution is safe for humans and offers a sustainable alternative for the construction industry.
