Negin Hashmati, a PhD student in Interaction Design at Chalmers University, is studying how relationships with AI friends may affect the mental health of young people. Using interviews with Swedish youth and design fiction stories, the research aims to anticipate both positive and negative effects of AI companions and provide insights for policymakers. The project combines practical research with creative storytelling to explore the social implications of emerging AI technologies.
