
Corvinus University of Budapest has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Professor Andrea Kárpáti (1955–2025), Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Professor Emerita of Corvinus. A renowned figure in communication and media studies, she was celebrated for her pioneering research in visual education, curriculum development, and talent support.
Professor Kárpáti shaped the academic outlook of generations of students and doctoral researchers, authoring numerous monographs, journal articles, and book chapters. At Corvinus, she led the AMASS project within the EU Horizon 2020 programme, empowering young Roma women through visual and media education.
She served as Vice President of the International Society for Education through Art and President of the European Network of Visual Literacy, earning international recognition for her contributions. Her awards include the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2005) and the Albert Szent-Györgyi Prize (2012).
Appointed Professor Emerita in June 2025, her legacy continues to strengthen the reputation of Corvinus University worldwide.
