On February 11, 2026, Eötvös József College came alive with a vibrant cultural celebration. Organized by the Miskolczy College Program, students in the ethnic pedagogy program highlighted the richness of their heritage, presenting traditions and customs from the Roma, Swabian, and Croatian communities.
A highlight of the event was a tasting of traditional dishes prepared by the students. Attendees experienced a culinary journey featuring Roma cuisine such as stuffed cabbage and bokolyi, Swabian specialties including khēz prot, preckedli, and krumplis plecla, and Croatian flavors like zagorski štrukli and papula.
Students also delivered presentations and shared generational stories about their identity and communities. Colorful and intricately decorated traditional costumes were showcased, allowing participants to appreciate the patterns and distinctive styles up close.
“This student-led initiative, supported by the college program, demonstrates the importance of giving students space to express their creativity,” said Éva Ladányi, head of the Miskolczy College Program. She added that the event’s success and the lively cultural exchange created a memorable experience for everyone involved.
The evening concluded with a performance by the Duna Folk Music and Dance School, featuring traditional melodies, folk songs, and instrument demonstrations. The audience was even invited to join in the dancing.
The event’s success was driven by the students’ enthusiasm and active participation, highlighting the diversity and vibrancy of the college community. Special thanks were extended to the students, their families, and faculty for their support and contributions.
