A new educational short film has been released as part of the Who Are You…? series by the National Film Institute’s Film Archive, portraying Szőllősy Éva (born Keményfy Éva), a legendary art historian and former professor at the University of Theatre and Film Arts. The documentary was created in close collaboration with the Liszt Academy Library, which houses the Szőllősy family’s rich legacy.
Szőllősy Éva, wife of composer Szőllősy András, had a nearly five-decade-long teaching career starting in 1949. The film draws on the couple’s preserved letters, photos, audio recordings, and manuscripts, reflecting not only their intellectual partnership but also the deep admiration of Éva’s students.
The documentary features heartfelt recollections from prominent filmmakers like István Szabó, Lajos Koltay, Sándor Sára, György Illés, János Kende, and Emese Révész, who describe her as a deeply influential figure in 20th-century Hungarian cinema education.
The film also highlights the vital role of the Liszt Academy Library in preserving Hungary’s cultural heritage and underscores the importance of maintaining complete personal archives for future generations.
