The International and Public Relations Directorate of the University of Szeged (SZTE) hosted an Orientation Day for incoming Erasmus+ students in the ceremonial hall of the SZTE Rector’s Office. In the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, 85 new international students from 13 countries began their studies at SZTE through the Erasmus+ mobility program, with an additional student arriving via the CEEPUS program from Austria.
Program coordinator Tibor Zilahi welcomed the students, highlighting that SZTE is the top Hungarian university according to the Shanghai Ranking, with 25,000 students, including 5,000 international students, across 12 faculties. He encouraged students to make new friends, build connections, and gain valuable experiences during their time in Szeged.
The largest groups of Erasmus+ students came from Turkey, France, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Belgium, reflecting SZTE’s popularity as an international destination.
Students like Miriam Noir from France and Debora Lazzarotto from Italy shared their excitement about studying in Hungary, improving their English skills, and exploring the city of Szeged.
Fanni Farkas, Erasmus+ program coordinator, provided practical guidance on administrative tasks and emphasized that SZTE offers 70 programs in English and other foreign languages across its 12 faculties and the Teacher Training Centre.
The day also included meetings with faculty coordinators, campus tours, and presentations from Horváth Zita, president of Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Szeged, who outlined upcoming social events such as International Bingo, city tours, billiards, and karaoke, helping students integrate and connect with peers.
The orientation concluded with students registering at the József Attila Study and Information Centre, accessing the library and archives, and receiving their student ID cards, officially marking the start of their Erasmus+ experience at SZTE.
