The Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave is participating in the European project EU-SIDE – European Social Innovation and Democratic Education, an initiative funded by the European Commission that aims to empower teachers and future educators with inclusive, participatory, and democracy-focused educational approaches.
The project is part of the Teacher Academy initiative and is coordinated by the University of Burgos. It brings together partners from six European countries—Portugal, Spain, Finland, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands—and includes higher education institutions from the RUN-EU alliance.
Within the consortium, the Portuguese polytechnic plays an active role in developing innovative pedagogical approaches and collaborative teacher training strategies. As part of the project activities, representatives recently took part in an international meeting hosted by the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, where partners aligned work packages, reviewed early results from pilot training programs, and discussed the creation of a European framework for social innovation competences.
EU-SIDE aims to establish a European Teacher Academy dedicated to Social Innovation and Democratic Education, with a strong focus on continuous and international professional development. Planned actions include the creation of innovative teaching resources, hybrid training formats such as short programs, blended intensive programs, and MOOCs, as well as the validation of these approaches in real educational settings.
