
Students and alumni from Mid Sweden University celebrated major success at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, bringing home a total of five medals. Eleven representatives from the university’s Sports Academy took part in the Games, with six athletes reaching the podium.The standout performer was cross-country skier Jonna Sundling, an alumna who previously studied economics at the university. She secured three medals: gold in the sprint relay, silver in the individual sprint, and silver in the 4×7.5 km relay.In biathlon, alumni Linn Gestblom and Hanna Öberg contributed to Sweden’s silver medal in the women’s 4×6 km relay. On the men’s side, student Sebastian Samuelsson, together with alumni Viktor Brandt and Jesper Nelin, earned bronze in the 4×7.5 km relay.Beyond the medalists, many members of Sweden’s Olympic team have trained and tested their performance at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (NVC), further highlighting the university’s role in elite winter sports development.
