As temperatures rise, research from two graduates of Aalborg University shows that combining green areas with nearby water bodies can significantly cool urban environments. The study, based on data from Copenhagen, found that proximity to the sea can reduce temperatures by up to two degrees within 150 meters, while green areas alone lower temperatures by about half a degree. When green spaces are placed near water, the cooling effect can double to one degree. The findings highlight the importance of integrating both vegetation and water into city planning to combat heatwaves, reduce health risks, and improve urban living conditions.
