A new study from the University of Helsinki finds that women with a history of pre-eclampsia, a condition affecting about 5 percent of pregnancies, face a 1.5-fold higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Researcher Minttu Venetkoski, MD, shows that using hormone therapy to alleviate menopausal symptoms can simultaneously reduce this risk. The study emphasizes the importance of doctors considering pre-eclampsia history when assessing cardiovascular risk, particularly during menopause.
