At Széchenyi István University, students don’t just study — they grow into innovators, researchers, and changemakers. From the very first semester, young talents are encouraged to step into leadership roles, explore cutting-edge research, and take advantage of scholarship programs that fuel both academic and personal growth.
One standout example of this is the Aschenbrenner brothers from Tatabánya. Their journey proves how the university’s support system — including student governments, professional colleges, and research funding — creates a launchpad for success.
Leadership from Day One
András Aschenbrenner began his journey in the bachelor’s program for engineering informatics. In just his second semester, he joined the University Student Government (EHÖK). Starting as a representative, then advancing to faculty coordinator, sub-council president, and finally vice president, he became a key voice in student advocacy.
As a master’s student at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Economics, András deepened his focus on academic excellence. He received support from two major professional colleges — the Neumann János Informatics College and the Széll Kálmán Economic Data Science College — to carry out research in digital transformation. His work earned him multiple awards at student research conferences (TDK), including a first-place finish in May 2025.
For his exceptional scientific achievements, András was awarded the University Research Scholarship, which is open to both undergraduates and young lecturers. The program provides critical resources for those starting research projects early in their academic careers.
Research at the Core
His younger brother, László Aschenbrenner, followed a similar path, studying engineering informatics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Electrical Engineering. Even as a freshman, he joined various university projects where he developed real-world software and applications.
By the time he reached his second year, László had already written a TDK paper on Windows systems and successfully applied for the same research scholarship. Thanks to university support, he has presented at professional conferences and will soon represent Széchenyi University at an international event.
Going Global
Both brothers are preparing to participate in international research programs with the Pannonia Scholarship, proving that the university’s investment in its students continues across borders.
As László puts it:
“These opportunities are not just for seniors. They’re open from the first year — and they open doors you didn’t even know existed.”
