BUDAPEST – July 31, 2025 – The Hungarian Dance University proudly represented Hungary at the 34th International Council of Kinetography Laban (ICKL) Conference, held in Gambier, Ohio, USA, from July 13 to 19, 2025, in collaboration with the Laban Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies.
Henrik Kovács, lecturer and researcher at the university, led a workshop on the notation depth of the Gyimesi féloláhos dance, introduced Hungarian institutional and research background in dance notation, and presented a prepared study by the late Dr. János Fügedi. He also chaired a session and was elected as a Fellow, joining the ICKL’s higher decision-making body — one of only two Hungarian members to hold this distinction.
The six-day conference included lectures, workshops, problem-solving sessions on dance notation, and networking events. Kovács also organized a traditional Hungarian táncház (dance house).
Following the conference, he visited the Hungarian community in Cleveland, where he gave a live dance presentation and participated in a Bocskai Radio interview about the event’s success. He also delivered signed copies of Nők Lapja magazine as gifts.
Kovács extended his gratitude to Márta Fodorné Molnár and colleagues for supporting the MEC_R_24 149622 project funded by the National Research Development and Innovation Office.
