
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) has once again secured a leading position in the 2025 national higher education admissions, placing in the top third among 51 universities in Hungary. Nearly 3,300 students are set to begin their studies across MATE’s campuses this year, with a notable increase in both total applications and first-choice selections.
The Szent István Campus in Gödöllő remains the most popular, enrolling 1,301 students, followed by the Kaposvár (807) and Budai (740) campuses. The Georgikon Campus in Keszthely saw a 25% increase in admissions, while the Budai Campus grew by nearly 6% compared to 2024.
High Demand for Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs
Popular undergraduate programs include Special Education in Kaposvár (141 students, minimum 312 points) and Landscape and Garden Engineering in Budapest (118 students, 325 points). The highest admission score, 500 points, was recorded in the Part-time Agricultural Economics and Rural Development program.
Several programs saw average admission scores above 420 points, including Commerce and Marketing, Agricultural Engineering, Management, Environmental Engineering, and Medicinal and Spice Plants Studies.
At the master’s level, Plant Protection continues to be the most sought-after program, alongside strong interest in Technical Management and Facility Engineering. New offerings include Mechatronics Engineering (part-time) in Kaposvár, reflecting rising demand for technical fields in the region.
MATE is also accepting applications for specialized postgraduate programs until 15 August 2025.
