The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole has completed a major upgrade, significantly enhancing its ability to study neutrinos from space. Swedish scientists and technology played a central role in the upgrade, contributing advanced sensors, deep-ice cables, and steerable cameras designed to improve measurement precision.
Researchers from Stockholm University and Uppsala University were key contributors, helping to strengthen IceCube’s capabilities in neutrino astronomy, particle physics, and climate-related ice analysis. The upgrade is expected to enable new discoveries and more accurate analysis of over a decade of existing data.
