The Hungarian University of Fine Arts has opened its doors to “The Animism of Metamorphosis,” a thought-provoking exhibition by world-renowned Indonesian contemporary artist Heri Dono. Hosted at the historic Kálvária chapel in Epreskert, the exhibition launched with a vibrant opening ceremony featuring speeches by Prof. Dr. István Erős, Rector of HUFA, a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, and university lecturer József Gaál. The evening was elevated by live performances from the Javanese gamelan ensembles Surya Kencana A and Topong Bang.
Blending traditional Javanese shadow puppetry (wayang kulit) with animated sculptures and experimental installations, Heri Dono’s work explores social commentary through whimsical visual language and cultural symbolism. The pieces on display were created during the artist’s recent Hungarian residency, drawing inspiration from HUFA’s architectural and intellectual legacy.
“The Animism of Metamorphosis” will be open to visitors from June 13 to 21, on weekdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including during the Night of Museums.
