Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa has launched the Atlantic Crossing Project, a partnership with Bridgewater State University (BSU), Massachusetts, aimed at boosting collaboration in teaching, research, and innovation. The initiative, funded by the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), focuses on exchanging pedagogical methods, creating hybrid classes, and fostering scientific cooperation.
Led by Professor Miguel Sales Dias of Iscte-Sintra and researcher at ISTAR-Iscte, the project has already introduced monthly debates on topics such as generative AI, cybersecurity regulation, and disinformation. Plans are also underway to expand discussions into science communication, innovation in management, and digital marketing.
The partnership paves the way for double degree programs, beginning with the new Master’s in Cybersecurity at Iscte-Sintra, starting September 2025, alongside a similar BSU program. Another milestone is the launch of the 1st Iscte Undergraduate Research Symposium (SIL-Iscte 2025) in October, inspired by BSU’s student research model.
Beyond Europe and the USA, the cooperation also extends to Cape Verde, where researchers are jointly developing the first large-scale Creole language model with translation into Portuguese and English.
This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening cultural and academic ties, offering new opportunities for students and researchers on both sides of the Atlantic.
