KTH Royal Institute of Technology has been selected as a partner in three strategic research areas recommended for funding by the Swedish Research Council: quantum technology, polar research, and climate-related research. The initiative aims to strengthen Swedish research environments to achieve world-class excellence.Annika Borgenstam, Vice President for Research at KTH, emphasized that the funding underscores the high quality of KTH’s research and its societal relevance.Key ProjectsPolar Research: KTH partners in the Swedish Centre for Integrative Polar Research led by Stockholm University, which will receive SEK 66.5 million over two years. The project studies rapid Arctic and Antarctic changes and their effects on the global climate, cryosphere, ecosystems, and societies.Quantum Technology: KTH partners with Chalmers University in a project projected to receive SEK 30 million next year and 60 million the following year.Climate Transition: KTH partners in the Stockholm Centre for Climate Transition, led by Stockholm University, which will receive over SEK 44 million over two years, integrating multidisciplinary knowledge to address societal transformation for climate adaptation.In total, the Swedish Research Council recommends 16 projects for funding within the Strategic Research Areas initiative. The government will make the final decision and allocate the funds as earmarked parts of the universities’ research budgets.
