
The Technical University of Liberec, in cooperation with the Liberec Region, has launched the Active School project to promote physical activity among children and teenagers in primary and secondary schools. Supported with CZK 3 million from the region, the initiative will involve 30 elementary and 10 secondary schools and aims to improve school-based movement opportunities, including active breaks, lessons outside physical education, and encouragement of active commuting.The project integrates university students from the sports and healthy lifestyle program, leveraging academic expertise to guide schools. Observations, best practices, and recommendations will be compiled into a methodology for schools, with high-performing institutions eligible for an Active School certificate.Trend: Research from TUL’s Department of Physical Education and Sport indicates a decline in youth physical fitness over recent decades, highlighting the urgency of preventive action.
