Maynooth University has received €600,000 from Met Éireann to fund the EXACT project — Extremes Across Climates and Timeframes. The research, led by Prof Conor Murphy of ICARUS with Dr Amr Mahfouz and Prof Peter Thorne, will combine Ireland’s historical climate records with future climate projections to study floods, droughts, heatwaves, and other extreme events.
The project will focus on compound extremes, where multiple hazards occur together, and develop evidence-based climate storylines to guide planning and adaptation. These storylines aim to make complex climate risks more understandable and actionable, supporting a climate-resilient Ireland.
