
Professor Michal Lošťák has taken office as the new rector of Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, beginning his four-year term on February 2026. He succeeds Petr Sklenička after serving two terms.In an interview, Lošťák outlined his vision of building an excellent and resilient university grounded in strong interpersonal relationships, academic quality, and a sense of stability. He stressed that universities should provide “a feeling of safety and certainty in turbulent times” and act as a moral and intellectual anchor in society.Among his key priorities are strengthening collaboration across faculties, supporting research excellence, enhancing fair recognition and rewards for quality work, and expanding the transfer of research results into practice. He also highlighted the importance of internationalisation, including cooperation within the Euroleague for Life Sciences alliance and the planned European University project.Lošťák expressed support for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in higher education, noting both its benefits and ethical challenges. Looking ahead, he envisions a “rich university” — rich not only economically, but also intellectually, socially, and environmentally — that combines natural and social sciences to address future challenges.
