Budapest – June 19, 2025 | Óbuda University has made a significant leap in global higher education rankings, moving up from the 1201–1400 band to the 1001–1200 category in the newly released QS World University Rankings 2026. The announcement was made by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Óbuda University, who confirmed that the institution’s overall score has more than doubled compared to the previous year.
This advancement reflects strong improvements across multiple indicators, including the highest national ranking in citations per faculty, a rising share of international academic staff, and a notable increase in the university’s sustainability score.
Among the ten Hungarian universities featured in the 2026 QS list, Óbuda now ranks 6th nationally, marking its most prominent international standing to date.
The QS World University Rankings, considered one of the most authoritative global rankings alongside the Times Higher Education (THE) list, evaluates institutions based on 16.4 million academic publications and feedback from over 151,000 academics and 100,000 employers worldwide.
The improved QS performance follows a similar rise in the THE World University Rankings 2025, where Óbuda University moved up from the 1001–1200 band to the 601–800 category—a leap achieved after four consecutive years in the same range.
“This recognition is a result of sustained institutional development, growing research impact, and international collaboration,” said Prof. Kovács. “It’s a clear signal to students around the world that Óbuda University is a strong and rising choice for higher education.”
The university’s improved standing is expected to further enhance its visibility among international applicants and academic partners in the years to come.
