The Scientist-in-Residence (SIR) program in Salzburg is inviting applications for its 2026 scholarship round, offering up to ten one-month residencies for international early-career researchers. The program, designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, enables young scientists to work closely with Salzburg’s academic, cultural, and knowledge institutions while engaging with the public.
Applicants must hold a PhD or postdoctoral position at a university or research institution outside Austria, or demonstrate several years of research experience. Candidates must be under 45 years old and provide proof of residence outside Austria.
Participants will be expected to engage in dialogue with local researchers and cultural institutions and present their work to the public through events, outreach activities, or media engagements. The initiative aims to strengthen international networks and support the development of new interdisciplinary projects in Salzburg, dubbed the “city of knowledge.”
Applications for the first half of 2026 are open until 31 May 2025.
