
Prof. Dr. Gyenge Zoltán served eight years as dean and three years as vice-dean of the University of Szeged Faculty of Arts, turning the previously financially struggling faculty into a well-managed and resourceful institution. Under his leadership, the faculty has consistently ranked top in Hungary for teaching excellence.
He emphasizes the importance of humanities education for fostering critical, autonomous, and ethical thinking, skills highly valued in the labor market. During his tenure, he modernized campus facilities, launched initiatives like the Radnóti Cafe and the Faculty Free University, and founded the Szegedi University Press in 2025.
After his deanship, Prof. Gyenge will continue as Chair of the University Doctoral Council and as the responsible editor of Szegedi University Press.
