During the 10th Jubilee Congress of the Polish Hepatology Society (PTH) held in Warsaw, a new board was elected, with Prof. Michał Kukla from the Faculty of Medicine at Jagiellonian University Medical College (UJ CM) appointed as Vice-Chair.
PTH unites doctors and scientists specializing in liver diseases, focusing on advancing research, education, and clinical practices. It also facilitates expert collaboration and hosts scientific conferences featuring leading national and international specialists. Under its auspices, the society publishes Clinical and Experimental Hepatology, a journal with a steadily increasing Impact Factor.
The congress gathered specialists in hepatology, gastroenterology, transplantation, surgery, and pediatrics. Sessions explored liver and biliary diseases, transplantology, and endoscopy, while also reflecting on PTH’s 30-year history and the development of hepatology in Poland.
Prof. Kukla, who also leads the Endoscopy Department at the University Hospital in Kraków, has been an active PTH board member since 2015 and contributes to organizing its annual scientific conferences. He emphasizes multidisciplinary approaches to liver disease diagnosis and treatment.
At the event, he also presented new guidelines for diagnosing and treating metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in primary care, developed under his supervision and that of Prof. Krzysztof Tomasiewicz from the Medical University of Lublin.
