
The Łódź Branch of the Polish Geographical Society (PTG) invites participants to a lecture by Prof. Włodzimierz Pawlak from University of Łódź titled Trekking (Almost) Around Manaslu – Adventures of a Geographer in the Himalayas. The event will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 5:00 PM and can also be attended online via Microsoft Teams.The lecture will begin with a virtual tour of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, showcasing its chaotic urban layout alongside remarkable Hindu and Buddhist monuments. Participants will then explore the Himalayas, including the 8,163 m Manaslu massif near the Nepal-China border, trekking along the Buri Gandaki river valley, crossing mountain streams via suspension bridges, and experiencing life in high-altitude lodges. The talk will also cover weather changes in the Himalayas and their causes.Prof. Pawlak, a geographer, climatologist, and meteorologist, specializes in greenhouse gas exchange between the atmosphere and ecosystems. An experienced mountain traveler, he has trekked in Asia, Australia, Oceania, subpolar regions, and the Himalayas, and is the author of about 100 scientific publications.
