The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), in partnership with Dublin City Council, hosted the 10th annual Ballroom of Romance at its St Stephen’s Green campus on 25 August 2025. More than 350 older people, active retirement groups, and local community members enjoyed an evening of nostalgic melodies and dancing, celebrating the golden Irish Showband era.
The highlight performance came from “Ronan Collins and Stories” featuring Ronan Collins, Karen Black, and Eugene McCarthy. The evening opened with the Ukrainian Soul Choir, adding harmony and cultural diversity to the celebrations.
Organised by RCSI Engage and Dublin City Council’s South East Area Community Development team, the event highlights the importance of music, togetherness, and intergenerational connection. Maria Kelly, Head of RCSI Engage, emphasized the value of community gatherings in enhancing well-being, inclusion, and friendship.
RCSI Engage is part of the university’s community, public, and patient engagement strategy, fostering collaboration between RCSI and communities to advance health, education, and participation.
