South East Technological University (SETU), together with Waterford City & County Council and Waterford and Wexford ETB (WWETB), hosted a landmark ‘Shared Island’ event promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from 9–11 February 2026.
Delegates from Ireland’s seven UNESCO Learning Cities explored how lifelong learning can drive climate action and social sustainability. Activities included mayoral receptions, visits to Waterford’s first UNESCO Learning Neighbourhood, walking tours of sustainable city initiatives, and a World Café Workshop for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
The event strengthened partnerships, shared best practices, and provided delegates with practical ideas to advance sustainability in their own cities.
